Website Man journal
A local designer is not automatically better, and a remote one is not automatically cheaper. Here is what each choice changes, what it does not, and the checks that actually decide whether your site brings enquiries. Last updated: October 2026 · by the Website Man team
The comparison
One honest table, then the part most quotes leave out.
A Bloemfontein web designer and a remote one can deliver the same site. What changes is who you can reach, how the work gets reviewed, and who answers after launch. Website Man is based in Bloemfontein and builds for clients nationwide, with published prices from R4,000 and a preview before you pay.
| Option | What it really changes | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Local designer with a studio in Bloemfontein you can visit | You can sit down, look at proofs together, and sort problems face to face. The trade off is that you are choosing from one city, so compare two or three quotes before you commit | You want a handshake and someone nearby while the site is built |
| Remote designer in another city or province | A wider pool to choose from: you pick on portfolio and price rather than postcode. Work happens by call, email, or WhatsApp, so you must be comfortable reviewing pages on a screen | You have found work you like and their process is written down clearly |
| Website Man: Bloemfontein base, nationwide delivery | From R4,000, one revision round on landing pages and two on full websites, preview before you pay, and replies on WhatsApp between 08:00 and 20:00 | You want a fixed published price and a preview before money changes hands, wherever you live |
If you are still comparing people rather than postcodes, read how to choose a web designer for the seven red flags. Local work sits on Website Man Bloemfontein. Every price is written down on pricing.
What matters
The questions that separate a working site from a pretty invoice.
Ask for the number in writing before work starts: page count, what is included, and what costs extra. A designer who will not put prices in writing is a bigger risk than distance. Website Man publishes every price, from a landing page at R4,000 to a full website at R10,000. See what R4,000 should buy.
You should see your actual page, with your words and your photos, before you pay. Screenshots hide how a page behaves on a phone. Our preview comes before payment, with one revision round included on landing pages and two on full websites. If the preview is wrong, you owe nothing.
A site is not finished on launch day. Ask who fixes a broken button in month three. Maintenance runs from R500 per month for backups, security updates, monitoring, and small changes. Your domain and hosting sit in your name and are paid to the provider directly, with no markup from us. See what maintenance covers.
Questions
Not automatically. Being nearby helps if you want to sit down with someone, but distance does not decide whether the site loads fast, reads well, or brings enquiries. Ask for published prices, a preview before you pay, and a named person who answers after launch.
Open three sites from their portfolio on your phone and see how they feel. Ask for a written quote with the page count, revision rounds, and what happens after launch. Confirm the domain and hosting go in your name. Then ask to see your own preview before you pay.
Location is a weak predictor of price. What moves the number is page count, custom design work, and revision rounds. Website Man charges the same national price list in Bloemfontein as anywhere else: landing pages from R4,000, animated pages from R6,000, and full websites from R10,000.
Ask the designer directly before you assume. Some work from a studio and take meetings, others work remotely from home. Website Man handles projects over WhatsApp, phone, and email between 08:00 and 20:00, and shares the preview before you pay so you judge the work itself.
